It would be the most "entertaining and ironic outcome" if the dogecoin "becomes the currency of earth in the future," Musk said.
Tesla, SpaceX CEO and one of the top richest people on earth, Elon Musk has recently spelled out that he is a bitcoin supporter.
On a meet-up in an invitation-only audio platform - Clubhouse (which is becoming very popular among techies lately), Musk said, “I should have bought (BTC) 8 years ago. I do at this point think bitcoin is a good thing. I am a supporter.”
He further said bitcoin is “on the verge of getting broad acceptance by conventional finance people.” He said that he did not have very strong opinions on other existing cryptocurrencies.
Musk addressed a very popular and meme-friendly cryptocurrency dogecoin (DOGE) saying he occasionally makes jokes about it. DOGE is “made as a joke,” he said, it would be a really “entertaining and ironic outcome,” if DOGE becomes the “currency of earth in the future.”
In recent times, Musk has sometimes teased the crypto community by dropping the name: bitcoin and dogecoin, but never sentenced if he is really a supporter of any cryptocurrency.
The new comments come several days after Musk changed his bio on twitter and mentioned “#Bitcoin,” and resulting in a 15% rise in the price of BTC. This immediate rise also caused the liquidation of $387 million-worth of bitcoin short positions.
